Leetia Alivaktuk

Biography

Leetia Alivaktuk is a talented printmaker from Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung), NU. Leetia debuted with the Pangnirtung Community Print Collection in 2001 and participated again in 2002. In 2002, she participated in a printmaking course offered in Pangnirtung through Nunavut Arctic College, where she acquired knowledge in the techniques of stencil printmaking and linocut.

Her print 'Bowhead Whales Near Pangnirtung' (2018) depicts a pod of whales swimming past a rocky beach. The lines of the water groove with the whales bodies seemingly moving together as a unit as they pass by Panniqtuuq. She has produced a number of drawings for the archives in Pangnirtung since the 1980s. Alivaktuk's prints are part of the 2018 Pangnirtung Print Collection.
