The Storytelling Issue

The Circumpolar Arctic is rich in oral histories and stories that frame and give shape to the world in a spectrum of dialects. Inuit artists reinterpret this in their art, creating narratives about themselves, their place in the world, their practises and their environment.

Featuring a interview with recent Governor General’s Award winner Germaine Arnaktauyok, an nexamination of Elisapie’s musical and cultural oeuvre, written and visual narratives from historical and contemporary storytellers and art by Jesse Oonark, Oshuitok Ipeelee, Kablusiak and more, the Storytelling issue spins a yarn that ties past and future together.

Are you an art collector? Or an Inuit Art Quarterly collector?
Since 1986, the Inuit Art Quarterly has been devoted to advancing and appreciating Inuit and circumpolar Indigenous arts. The back issues of our magazine testify to our focus on connecting readers around the world with the Arctic through the robust and thoughtful writing of Inuit and Indigenous writers. Maybe you’ve misplaced our history-making Nunatsiavut issue; maybe you didn’t subscribe in time to get last quarter’s copy. Either way, we can help.
