Biography

Logan “Umiligaaluk” Ruben is a painter and sculptor from Paulatuk, NT, currently based in Cranbrook, BC who descends from a long lineage of carvers.  Through painting, Ruben crafts the landscapes of Paulatuk,  memorializing the rich lands he hails from on canvas through bright colours and geometric shapes.  Each painting brings him closer to the land where hunting, fishing, and camping were a part of his ordinary life. Ruben combats homesickness and reconnects to his roots in the land he grew by growing up picking berries and putting brush to canvas. By mixing landscapes and places with camping locations by memory, Ruben shares stories of his northern home with his audience as well as his children.

Aside from his colourful tributes to his homelands, Ruben is also a sculptor and uses a variety of clay and metal wire to craft his works which are frequently figures of arctic animals such as narwhals and bears. [1]
