Biography

Ottokie Aningmiuq is a carver from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), NU who continues to live there making Kinngait their artistic community. Aningmiuq comes from an artistic family and was taught to carve by his father. He carves works with stone and most often uses serpentinite.

Major influences in Aningmiuq’s work include his family members and the land and animals around him.  Aningmiuq often carves northern animals with a playful hand that gives personality to his final figures. He also carves Inuit in traditional clothing and often engaging in practices such as traditional fishing and hunting.
